Simon, brother of the Lord
Simon was the son of Cleophas, a brother of Joseph, Jesus Christ’s earthly father. This means that Simon and Jesus were cousins. Like Judas, James, and Joses, Simon is described as being a ‘brother of the Lord’, a term that was obviously used at the time for a close relation.
Following the death of James the Less in the year 62 or 63, Simon became the second Bishop of Jerusalem. He was martyred by Proconsul Atticus in the year 107. His relics are kept in Cologne and Rome.
