Foundation walls of the entrance hall, old cathedral

The foundations pictured here formed the southern and western walls of the entrance area at the north-western end of the old cathedral. Construction material that was found during the excavations can be seen on the foundation wall. In the background, a small ladder leans against the western wall. Just above it is the old threshold of the cathedral. It leads into the large western atrium. The foundations of the threshold are reinforced by a recycled, trapezoid gravestone dating from the late Merovingian period.
