Descend of the Holy Spirit
The picture in the middle shows the descend of the Holy Spirit at the day of Pentecost, the event which is celebrated as the date of the foundation of the church. Therefore you can see above the main picture the handing over of the key to Peter. The standing figures in the architectural frame of the main picture personify the four cardinal virtues: strength, intelligence,wisdom and restraint. In the pedestal are the four latin Fathers of the Church: Ambrosius,Gregorius, Hieronimus and Augustinus. The bavarian coat of arms and the inscription of the donator: King Ludwig I- dating from 1848- are displayed in the upper corners of the main picture. (UBr)
