The easternmost choir stall screen on the north side shows seven scenes from the life of St Peter. The cycle begins with Christ calling St Peter (right). This is followed by portrayals of the arrest and liberation of the apostle. The third scene depicts St Peter’s enthronement as bishop. This unique portrayal of St Peter is obviously closely based on the medieval rite of ordination for bishops. The next scene, which shows St Peter meeting St Paul in Rome and depicts St Peter in his Episcopal vestments, is also unique. Emperor Nero’s interrogation of St Peter, his triumph over the heathen magician Simon Magus, and the crucifixion of St Peter complete the cycle.
