This 3.73-metre-high coloured representation of St Christopher was carved out of tufa sometime around the year 1470 by Tilman van der Burch, the leading Late Gothic sculptor in the Cologne region. The saint stands on a console above angels carrying the coat of arms of an unknown donor. Gathering up his robe in his right hand, he carries the Christ Child with a globe on his shoulders across a raging torrent. The burden of the world in the form of the judge of the universe is written all over his face.
