A total of 16 coats of arms can be seen in the two lowest rows of the Adoration window. These are evidence of the donor’s noble ancestry. The saints above them are the patron saints of the archbishop and his family: St Peter, who is seen presenting the archbishop, Mary, St Elisabeth of Thuringia, and St Christopher. The main scene shows the Adoration of the Magi. The Magi appear before Mary and the Child with a magnificent retinue and many gifts. The left-hand panel shows the Queen of Sheba visiting King Solomon, an Old Testament type of the Adoration of the Magi. The window was donated by the archbishop of Cologne, Hermann of Hesse (1480–1508).
