Archbishop Bruno IV von Sayn was Provost of St. Maria ad gradus in Cologne and from 1192 on, Provost in Bonn. He belonged to the Guelf party, and after being chosen Archbishop he was taken prisoner by his deposed predecessor Adolf I and held for two years. In 1208 he was allowed to go to Rome to plead his case. After his triumphant return to Cologne he died in Blankenburg Castle.
